Trae Young, Anthony Davis, and D'Angelo Russell are all sidelined for the Wizards on Saturday. That leaves Washington with a roster that looks more like a G-League squad than an NBA rotation. They simply do not have the individual shot-makers to push a total this high against a Miami team that is desperate to find its defensive footing. Miami is also dealing with a major blow to their offensive output with leading scorer Norman Powell ruled out due to illness. Powell averages 22.1 points per game and is the primary engine for the Heat's half-court offense. Without him, the Heat's offensive ceiling drops significantly and they will be forced to rely on a more balanced, slower approach. The Heat have lost eight of their last ten games and are currently fighting to maintain their spot in the play-in tournament. Coach Spoelstra will likely demand a "lock in" effort on the defensive end to stop the bleeding after allowing 147 points to Boston on Wednesday. This Saturday afternoon tip-off at 3:10 PM is also a classic spot for "tired legs" and sluggish shooting percentages. Day games rarely see the kind of offensive efficiency required to clear a number approaching 250 points. With Doncic and LeBron James pushing the pace, the Lakers have topped the 120-point mark in three of their last four outings. Oklahoma City isn't exactly slowing down either, currently ranking fifth in the league in scoring at 118.6 points per game. The Thunder have won 15 of their last 16 games by playing fast and efficient basketball. When these teams met in February, they combined for 229 points even with a slower start. L.A. is currently 17-5 in their last 22 games because they are comfortable in high-possession shootouts. Their transition defense is non-existent, and the Thunder thrive on getting out and running after misses. The total is sitting at 228.5, which feels light given the defensive vulnerabilities of this Lakers squad. We have the two highest-scoring players in the league on the floor together in a game with massive playoff seeding implications. Expect a high-octane track meet with plenty of trips to the free-throw line late in the game. The over has been a strong trend in this head-to-head matchup when both teams are healthy.
