Taking SEATTLE. I will preface this by saying that I thought the Cubs and White Sox both should have blasted Steven Matz. And that the Tigers should have scored off Manoah his first game back from the minors. None of that happened. I still think that this cat is one of the worse to trot out every five days though. Last year was last year. This year, the kid has been brutal. Woo is off a tough game, but overall he has been decent. I am not buying the Blue Jays finding themselves at the dish after scoring a few runs yesterday. I was tempted to go RL for the big +160, but have been struggling a bit. Taking the RANGERS. Thought about Texas last night and didn't move on them. Will do it today. Not that I hate Bobby Miller. Youngster is decent. But in this spot, I don't think he should be listed as the favorite here. On numerous occasions on Mid Day Money I have talked about the Rangers home hitting. 286 2nd in the league with that and in home HRs hit. OBP + SLG both #2. Tops in the league in OPS. Texas with the better bullpen. Dane Dunning has been solid all year - in the pen or as a starter. In his 13 starts he has allowed more than 3 earned runs just twice. 6+ with 2 runs. Taking the ROYALS. How the heck do you lay this kind of number with the Yankees? Is that a joke? Look - Clarke Schmidt has not been terrible. He has actually been pretty respectable. But this New York bunch can not be trusted. Now KC is not a good team. In fact, I would say they are worse than Oakland since they actually have their top hitters called up from the minors. I would also say that they come in a steal a game in a series. The got one from Detroit, Tampa, Cleveland. Took 2 from the Dodgers. Yanks are 2-9 their last 11 games and have lost 4 in a row. This kid Marsh can strike some cats out. First start vs Dodgers 4 innings 5Ks 4BBs - 2nd start @ Twins 5 innings 5Ks 3BBs - 3rd start vs Rays 6 innings 11Ks 1BB. The New York Yankees, at home, are hitting .227 on the year. 3rd worse in all of MLB (1 Oak 2 Mets). 4* Money Maker KC ROYALS

Taking the ORIOLES. Had these guys last night, will come back again here on Friday. O's up 3-1 as I am doing this write up - if it continues, Tampa will now have dropped 5 in a row and 12 of their last 15. I like Eflin, but not only is this team not hitting that well the last few weeks, the pitching is struggling also. Eflin is off giving up 5 runs to the Royals. Normally he is 2-3 run pitcher through 6 innings. What I like to look at now, and the next month is pitcher innings. Eflin is now at the most he has thrown since 2019. 59 in Covid 2020 - 105 in 2021 - 75 last year - and 105 this season. Maybe the work load is catching up to him. Not a chance I think about laying a huge price with him going forward. Baltimore counters with Kyle Bradish, and he has been in a fantastic groove lately. A 1.87 ERA .88 WHIP his last 7 starts. Against a struggling lineup, we are in a nice spot getting this number. In his last 9 starts, he has given up more than 2 runs twice (3 both times) On the year he has giving up more than 3 runs just twice in 17 starts. 51Ks in 48 innings and 36 hits allowed the last 2 months. 4* Money Maker BALTIMORE ORIOLES

Taking the CUBS. I might be biased because of my win total future here on Chicago, but I don't think these guys should start selling off parts. I think this is a solid bunch. That being said - Stroman has been super at home. Are you kidding me with a .86 WHIP and .167 BA Against at home. 10 starts - not some fluke 3 games or something. Guy deals here. Had a pair of poor outings before the All-Star break. Perhaps the bilister thing. Not worried here. Not vs last place STL who are shopping players. And especially when I see Steve Matz on the other side. What a joke. Taking the BLUE JAYS. Well - took Toronto in Mid Day Money yesterday and that is not looking great. But, new day, different pitchers. Let's start with San Diego. Even if they won last night, this is still a team 5 games under .500 and 7 games under .500 on the road. Do I trust them as an even money dog? No. Do I trust them with a 36 year old pitcher with an ERA of 4.65 on the season, and 6.08 his last 7 starts? Heck No. The fact is in 8 of his games he has given up 3 or runs. 4 or more in 7 of those. At this stage of his career, the guy is a 5+ inning pitcher who will give up 3/4 runs. How about this quick note. For a guy who is considered an 'Ace'. He has 2 16 win seasons in his decade plus and 3 other seasons of 10 plus wins (13,10,10) Count me in the Padres should dump camp. Anyway - Give me Berrios at this price. Guy has solid numbers at home and solid numbers on the season. 4* Money Maker TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Taking the BREWERS. Last 3 times Burnes has faced Reds (twice in 2023) Milwaukee has come away with wins. 7-3 back on July 7 - 5-4 on June 2 and 10-2 back in September of last year. 2 starts this year have produced 12 innings 5 hits 5 runs 13 Ks - 8 walks! - That has been a reason I think for Burnes higher than normal ERA. He had 34 walks in 28 starts in 2021. 51 last year in 33. 39 already. Should we be concerned. I don't think so. He has responded with a .198 BA Against on the road and a 1.05 WHIP/ But playing an Over here isn't something I would shy away from especially with Ashcraft on the hill for Cincinnati. Guy has been brutal at home. (On the entire season also.) A .297 BA Against leads to an ERA of 7.95 in 9 starts! 1.65 WHIP. 19 walks 52 hits in 43 innings and 10 HRs. He gave up 10 to the Brewers back on June 3 in 4 innings. He is off a pair of decent starts vs the Padres and Nats giving up 2 runs in 12.2 innings of work. Taking MIAMI. Yeah. Perez got pasted by the Braves. But last place STL is not Atlanta by any stretch of the imagination. This is a last place club sputtering to the trade deadline looking to unload players. Our guy Eury ran into an absolute buzz saw that ripped him for 2 HRs, 7 hits and 6 Earned in a Third of an inning. 1 out! That is it. I expect a major bounce back here. And by here, I mean at home. Nearly untouchable. 3 runs in 26.2 innings of work. Sparkling .86 WHIP and .186 BAA. Jack Flaherty is off a nice win over the Yanks. But his previous two games, 10.2 inning 20 Hits 12 Earned. 10 hits and 6 Earned in both starts vs the Nats and Giants. At first glace you would think the price is low when you look at the Perez numbers, but we also have Flaherty who, if you take out these 2 and a game vs the Angels (10 Earned in 2.1 innings) the guy has give up 22 runs in 13 starts. Taking MIAMI. Took these guys last night, will come back on their rookie star. This kid has been dealing. What is there to say - if the Reds didn't have their own star, this rookie would be getting a lot more love. At this price, have to take a good Marlins club. Charlie Morton is a steady vet, but he has give up at least 3 runs in 4 of his last 5 starts. Miami can get to him. Eury gave up 3 in 1 start and then 4 in his other 8! 4* Money Maker MIAMI MARLINS

Taking the RANGERS. I like Hunter Brown a lot - but Eovaldi has been an absolute beast this season. A 1.00 WHIP on the year, .98 here at home with a .213 BA Against. I know Houston just trucked the Cards, but this staff is better. That is why STL is sitting in last place. And before that offensive explosion, the Astros hadn't been exactly raking the ball this season. I don't want to say bad things about Hunter. I have a ROY Ticket on him! He hasn't been brutal home or away. Kid is exactly as advertised. He is good. But I think the Rangers bat are a tad better. 4* Money Maker TEXAS RANGERS

Taking the YANKEES. As much as I bash this bunch - you have the edge on the mound today. STL is in last place. They are in a free fall of a season. Not a team that has won 14 of 16 heading into Friday. Not a team that is tied for 1st Place. If you want to say Williamson is bad. Fine. Not going to put a fight there. Cincy can score. More than acceptable vs a struggle Red Sox offense hitting .228 away from Fenway. Blue Jays one of the better hitting lineups vs lefties, and the Big Maple, James Paxton doesn't scare me. 4* Money Maker TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Taking the PIRATES. Off course they win when I don't bet them. 4 in a row for this streaking bunch. Milwaukee coming off the Mets - and let's be honest, this isn't a very good ballclub. The Brewers are the 2nd worse hitting club in all of MLB (Oakland #1) with their .226 clip. Barely better on the road at .229 - Look, Bido is nothing fancy. He will go 5, strike out 6, give up 6 hits and 2 runs. Pittsburgh has been feisty as heck though. Down 4-0, they could have mailed it. Nothing wrong winning 2 of 3 from San Diego. They didn't quit and pulled it out late. I don't see that kind of heart in the Brewers. Milwaukee 1-8 in Peralta's last 9 road starts, and they are favored tonight? 5.94 road ERA and a .285 BA Against, 1.62 WHIP. Washington one of the better hitting teams vs lefties at a .281 clip. We get the added bonus of a day off. Philly playing the Cubbies. We either get them off a loss, or full of themselves winning 4 in a row. There is no RL posted as I write this. The Nationals are 29-11 in Run Lines on the Road if that is something you are more comfortable with. I am going for the bigger payday on the ML. 4* Money Maker WASHINGTON NATIONALS

Taking BOSTON. Have to back Bello at this price. The youngster has really pitched well this season. You take out his first 2 starts - 7.1 innings 8 ERs -- and this kid has gone 59 innings with 16 ERs and the 3.27 ERA drops to 2.44. June his is posting a .98 WHIP and .194 BAA. For Miami, as much as I like Luzardo going back to his Oakland days, the guy is bad on the road. Opposing hitters raking him for a .309 BA and those hits are producing runs, 5.45 ERA. The Red Sox as #1 in team BA at home at .290. I thought about RL +160 here also. 4* Money Maker BOSTON RED SOX

Taking the BREWERS. David Peterson as a favorite - wow. Look. I totally understand that Milwaukee can't hit a lefty (2nd worse .217), but this cat throws batting practice. This is his first start since May 15th. Well, those last 4 starts - 24 innings 35 hits 27 runs! Mets are no great shakes at the dish. But have the Padres really done enough to be this big a road favorite? They are under .500 on the season and on the road. Darvish has a road ERA of 6.16 in 7 starts. I will also be on the UNDER in this game as well San Diego has trouble hitting on the road (4th worse all MLB .223) and slightly better vs lefties (.253) Pirates find themselves slumping a bit offensively, but Darvish will give up enough for us to get the win here. 4* Money Maker PITTSBURGH PIRATES

Taking WASHINGTON. Yeah. This is a big hold your nose play. Coming into Saturday action the Nats had dropped 15 of their last 18 games. Yikes. But there is zero chance I am backing Lugo at this price, ML or RL. Guy has a .303 BA Against here at home. If opposing hitters are raking at a 300 clip against, sign me up. I am sure it would shock many to hear that Washington is 6th in all of MLB in team batting average. Normally not what you think of a team 20 games under .500 or however close they are to that. Nats countering with ex Padre prospect MacKenzie Gore. The young lefty has been solid all season. Obviously for him his .226 BA Against while on the road is a big factor here. Couple with the fact that San Diego cannot hit lefties for a lick. - How about a .221, 3rd worse in all of MLB. No team is ever due to win or lose - but I think we have the edge on the mound and at this price, we are firing. 4* Money Maker WASHINGTON NATIONALS

Taking the ORIOLES. Marines coming off dropping a series to the Yanks, and now face an even tougher road opponent here in Baltimore. This team has yet to find their stride. Last year this time they were gearing up for a nice playoff run - this year, possibly dealing some pieces away in a month. If Oakland wasn't as historically bad as they are, Seattle could possibly be in last place. At this price, how do we not bet the home team? Orioles continue to win. 4th most wins in all of MLB. Taking MIAMI. We will again fade the Pirates. We had the Cubs, again yesterday for another win. We also had the Jays over Miami. That was after we had the Marlins in Games 1 + 2. Think I have a good feel for this Marlins bunch right now. But do we even need it? 9 straight losses and Pittsburgh has no dropped 14 of 16. So much for that fast start. The team is bad. Nothing wrong with that. They have some rebuilding to do. Mitch Keller started off great. He has been leveling off since. And on the road, well, he has walked off the level to a pit. 4 runs allowed at Milwaukee. 5 runs allowed vs Oakland. 4 runs at San Fran. 6 runs at Seattle. Sense a little road trend giving up runs here? How about his overall performance in his last 5 starts? 20 runs. Personally, I think when you have given up 4 or more in 4 of your last 5 starts we have a little problem. Coupled with the Pirates performance this month. Yeah - we take Miami. 4* Money Maker MIAMI MARLINS

Taking the WHITE SOX. So you know I like my streaks. And as I write this the day before, Texas has won 3 in a row heading into this Tuesday night matchup. That being said, even if we are looking at 4 up for the Rangers, and 3 straight L's for the Sox, I have to grab Kopech as a small dog. I can't back Perez in this spot. Guy has been a total Jekyll and Hyde with his splits this season. 1.71 ERA in 5 home starts. Totally dominant. On the road. He is Charlie Hough pitching at 64! 6.50 ERA in 9 starts. Opposing hitters raking a ridiculous .330 against him! 11 HRs allowed. A 1.80 WHIP. I know the Sox are in a little free for all, but I'll take them here. Kopech finally turning the corner and living up to the 1st round pick status. Last 7 games, dealing - 2.01 ERA .99 WHIP 53 Strikeouts in 40 innings. I like it. Honestly. If we go back to May - 9 starts. He has lowered his from a 7.01 to 3.92. That is what 14 runs in 52 innings looks likes. 2 of less runs allowed in 7 of those 9 starts. 4* Money Maker CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Not going to complain about a 2.86 ERA 1.02 WHIP and 217 BA Against. Again. Against Pitt? Chicago winners of 6 of 7 with their ace on the hill last night. I like our chances again. Taking the ORIOLES, again. Had them last night, will do it again this afternoon. Yep. Rays great at home. A true juggernaut. But let's not discount Baltimore. (heading into Tuesday night) These guys we tied for most road wins in all of MLB. Wells has been pitching pretty good lately - a .96 WHIP and 206 BA Against in his 3 June starts. We can lower it a bit more if we add his last May start 6 inning 4 hits 1 run. For me though. Let's fade a little Taj Bradley. I like the youngster. But for whatever reason, the kid gets mauled here at home. 4 starts 15 runs (14 ERs) in 17.2 innings of work - allowing opposing hitters to connect at a .301 clip isn't a good look when you come in listed as a 150 favorite. Taking the METS. Thought about RL -130 here, but I will stick with Senga on the ML. Guy has been more than solid at home. 6 starts 1.93 ERA .158 BAA and a decent 1.13 WHIP. Would be even better but the Jays tagged him for 4 runs in 2.2 innings on 4 hits. Otherwise, the guy is 6 innings an a run. Plus. Wainwright. Guy probably should have hung it up last year. Ineffective at home and on the road. 3 starts a 6.75 ERA. Opposing hitters raking .333 against him and a WHIP of 1.75. He is going to come out and give up 3/4 runs across 5 innings of work - possibly more if he doesn't get out of any jams. You put on 2 guys an inning and chances are you will give up some runs. Cards had also dropped 5 in a row coming into Friday nights game. Though Mikolas has been decent the last month or so, no guarantee the crack the win column.
