The #1 Ohio State Buckeyes (0-0) will visit the Virginia Tech Hokies (0-0) on Monday, September 7, 2015 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia. The game will televise at 8 pm ET on ESPN. The current odds list Ohio State as a 14-point favorite with the over/under set at 53.
Ohio State starts the season off as favorites to repeat as champions. They have both quarterbacks returning this year and although uncertain who will start, JT Barrett and Cardale Jones will probably both see playing time. Ezekiel Elliot returns as the top running back and he will look to surpass how 1878 yards and 18 touchdowns he posted in 2014. Joey Bosa, who had 13.5 sacks in 2014, will start the season opener on a suspension. This defense bodes to do well this year as they have a lot of talent returning. The Buckeyes are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 September games.
Virginia Tech had a mediocre season last year and will hope to add a few more wins this year. Senior quarterback, Michael Brewer returns this year after throwing for 2,692 yards along with 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2014. JC Coleman will be the starting running back this year while Trey Edmunds will still see some limited action. Brewer will have a few solid targets to aim for as Sophomore Isaiah Ford and tight end Bucky Hodges returns to the team. Virginia Tech is 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games in September and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games.
My Pick: Virginia Tech +14
Virginia Tech will be loud and proud for this game. Getting two touchdowns is hard to pass up. Ohio State is the best in the country but I think Virginia Tech can keep this game close. With Joey Bosa on the sidelines, Brewer might have enough time in the pocket to make some plays. I will take the Hokies and the points.
